Solar array on the roof of the former Lyndale Garden Center building

The Lyndale Gardens site just got a little greener.  That’s because a 40 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system has just been turned on.  In preparation for the new mixed-use development, the project was able to take advantage of federal, state, and Xcel Energy incentives to purchase solar panels that will help power the future retail and housing buildings.

The panels were made locally in Minnesota by tenK solar and were installed by Sundial Solar.   Until the development is complete, energy will be sold back to Xcel.  The Cornerstone Group is researching additional opportunities for solar power for the multifamily building, with plans to break ground in 2013.
