Managing waste in an affordable community
If you’re familiar with the innovation an design world, you’re also familiar with IDEO. IDEO is a design and innovation consultancy founded in Palo Alto with other offices in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Boston, London, Munich and Shanghai. The company helps design products, services, environments, and digital experiences. Additionally, the company has become increasingly involved in management consulting.
As you know, we have been shipping our food waste off to a local pig farm and have seen a drastic decrease in our waste management costs. Similarly, we have focused on a holistic and collaborative approach to development. As an owner and operator of several hundred affordable properties throughout The Twin Cities, we found OpenIDEO‘s newest partnership to be insightful. OpenIDEO, a place where people design better, together for social good, have partnered with Unilever and Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WASUP) to explore sanitation issues in Ghana. Together they are asking the OpenIDEO community, to help come up with sustainable sanitation inspirations and concepts. They are focusing on low-income urban areas like Kumasi – the nation’s second-largest city, with a population of more than 1.5 million people.
